Quick & Easy Honey Sriracha Shrimp Recipe
This honey sriracha shrimp recipe is fast and flavorful. Balance the spice by serving it over rice. Add a side of vegetables like steamed or boiled broccoli. Even better, it’ll be ready in under 20 minutes.
I typically keep a bag of frozen shrimp in the freezer. My go-to is peeled and deveined shrimp, which cuts out extra prep work.
Jump to RecipeHow to Defrost Shrimp
Shrimp defrosts in about 10 minutes. Simply take out the amount of shrimp you’d like to cook, cover it in cold water, and let it sit until defrosted. Once it’s defrosted, pat the shrimp dry.
Now, you’re ready to cook your shrimp.
How to Cook Shrimp on the Stovetop
Cooking shrimp in a pan takes 5 minutes — really! It’s easy to overcook shrimp, which will give them a rubbery texture, so make sure to watch the shrimp carefully when you cook it on a stovetop. You can season your shrimp with salt, pepper, and anything else of your choosing.
Heat your pan over medium heat and add oil. I use non-stick olive oil. Once the pan is heated, place the shrimp in the pan in a single layer. Cook them on one side for about 2 minutes and then flip them and cook for another 2 minutes.
How to Tell if Shrimp is Cooked
Defrosted shrimp is translucent and grey. When it’s cooked, you’ll notice that:
- The shrimp will turn opaque white.
- The grey will turn orange-pink.
- The shrimp will start to curl.
Not sure if the shrimp is ready? Cut one in half with your spatula to make sure that it’s cooked through.
Sriracha Honey Sauce
After you’ve cooked the shrimp, it’s time to make the sauce. The worst thing is finishing a recipe and realizing you’re short on sauce, which is why we’ve made sure you’ll have plenty. For 1 pound of shrimp, about 36-40 medium shrimp, you’ll need:
- 4 tbsp lime juice
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 4 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 tbsp sriracha
- 6 tablespoons honey
- 2 tsp minced garlic
Mix all the ingredients together and heat on medium-low. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes until it starts thickening up. Once the sauce is thick, turn the heat off and mix the shrimp with the sauce. The sriracha shrimp is ready to serve! Top with green onions if you choose.
And if you have leftover shrimp, these reheat pretty well using the microwave or a pan as we show in our guide on how to reheat shrimp.
